How GLS parcels are delivered in Finland
Receiving a parcel with GLS is easy! However, the exact delivery process depends on whether you’re a private or business recipient. If the sender has chosen additional services, this may also affect the delivery.
Parcels to private recipients
Pick-up Points and Parcel Lockers
Most parcels sent to private recipients are delivered to a Matkahuolto pick-up point* or parcel locker. You can track your parcel throughout the delivery via GLS tracking.
Pickup notification
When your parcel is ready for collection, you will receive a notification via:
- SMS
- Matkahuolto mobile app
- letter
The notification method depends on the contact details provided by the sender. If you use the Matkahuolto app, you will conveniently see both tracking and notifications there. The notification also includes the address and opening hours of the pick-up point.
If you have lost the notification, no worries! You can check the pick-up location details on Matkahuolto’s website or app using the parcel ID. In GLS Tracking, the ID appears as “Finland Parcel Number” once the parcel has arrived in Finland.
When collecting your parcel, you always need the collection code included in the notification.
FlexDeliveryService – adjust your delivery
If the sender has chosen the FlexDeliveryService for your parcel, you can adjust the delivery method to suit your needs. You will receive an email with a link, through which you can:
✔ Change the delivery address (business addresses)
✔ Select your preferred pick-up point
✔ Agree on a new delivery time
Through FlexDeliveryService, you can also choose Posti parcel lockers. Please note that changes must be made before your parcel is processed at our terminal in Turku, Finland.
Large and Heavy Parcels
Parcels weighing more than 30 kg are delivered directly to the door, also for private recipients. Delivery takes place during working hours.
If the recipient cannot be reached, a notification is left at the delivery address. If leaving a notification is not possible, delivery will be attempted again on the following working days.
*Exceptions: Large and heavy parcels are always delivered to the door. Parcels sent to private recipients in Åland are delivered via Posti.
Parcels for business recipients
Parcels sent to businesses and other organizations are delivered directly to the door. You can track your shipment in GLS Tracking and prepare for the delivery.
If delivery fails (for example, if the business is closed), a notification will be left at the address, if possible. The shipment will then be returned to the distribution terminal to wait for a new delivery attempt.
For deliveries we work with local partners, such as Peipponen Express in the Turku region and DB Schenker nationwide.
